Walt: Haiku Poetry

#1: Kick Start

#2: Step It Up

Hey guys!!!
This was the first great activity for me because during back at Tamaki Primary in 2019, I'm so good of reading Poetic books and this was a good review like my Pepeha in Maori but more fun and challenging in English. I had a wonderful day completing this activity and can't wait for the next one!

Hope you enjoyed my blog-post view and don't forget to leave a comment! Thank you!!!

Social Justice Revision

Walt: Social Justice Revision

Here's the blog post about Social Justice...

Social Justice - the concept of fair and just relations between the individual and society, as

measured by the distribution of wealth, opportunities for personal activity, and social

privileges.

Notions of social justice generally embrace values such as the equal worth of all citizens,their equal right to meet their basic needs, the need to spread opportunity and life chances as widely as possible, and finally, the requirement that we reduce and, where possible, eliminate unjustified inequalities.

If you want to know more about Social Justice, here are first the 3 values;

  • Fairness - The quality of treating people equally or in a way that is right or reasonable

The Importance of: Fairness - Citywise

  • Non-discrimination - To be inclusive, include people

Non-discrimination Policy – Stacy M. Butterfield, CPA

  • Inclusiveness - The practice or policy of including people who might otherwise be

excluded or marginalized

Towards Inclusiveness - Posts | Facebook

Here are also their family words and when they’re not upheld (their opposite);

Fairness;

  • Unfair

  • Unfairness

  • Fairly

Non-discrimination;

  • Discriminatory

  • Discrimination

  • Discriminated

Inclusiveness;

  • Excluded

  • Exclusiveness

  • Non-inclusiveness

Now that we learned what Social Justice is, this next one is called Equality VS Equity and

what’s their differences.

  • Equality: Generally refers to equal opportunity and the same levels of support for all

segments of society.
  • Equity: Goes a step further and refers offering varying levels of support depending

upon need to achieve greater fairness of outcomes.

Environmental Equity vs. Environmental Justice: What's the Difference? — MobilizeGreen

Here’s the reason…

The difference between equality and equity must be emphasised. Although both promote

fairness, equality achieves this through treating everyone the same regardless of need, while

equity achieves this through treating people differently depending on need.

Hope you learned this post view and you too can learn a lot more to Social Justice & Equality/Equity!!!

1 Minute Fitness Challenge

Walt: 1 Minute Fitness Challenge

Here's my blog post from PE,

How would you rate your effort in today’s session, I say...

During the 1 minute challenge, I would rate my effort 100% high because the purpose of this is to get a base indication on where we are in terms of our Fitness Levels, in all areas.

In order to get more benefits out of the Fitness sessions, one thing you can do to be better for the next session is...

I can do 1 minute base fitness better by 1 min rest in between exercises.

The benefit of this is that once I know the Base Fitness I’m able to set goals for improvement by the end of the first part of the Fitness Studies Unit.

one thing that you have achieved today that you are proud of is that...

I achieved all 1 minute exercises and I am proud because the best thing about this is, you don’t need any equipment, just some space, a good attitude and a timer.

Resting Heart Rate:

15 x 4 = 60 beats per minute(bpm)

Hope you enjoyed today's blog post and you too can improve more benefits for the next session at PE!!!

Plans & Preparations for Akomanga Kaihanga Showcase

Walt: Plans & Preparations for Akomanga Kaihanga Showcase

On the first week back to school on Term 3, 9KMe spent their periods preparing for a project showcase on Thursday at 5PM.

The planning for our poster started out like this; Mathew started creating the results of project. We then spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out where our text should fit. Once we liked the design we got Dr Jannie to check on it. At this point we started our speeches and to say of what we were going to write about and the speech that would accompany the poster.

Here's the "digital" poster we've been working on....

One challenge we had run into (for what I was there for anyways) was how much time was actually spent on the draft and then the digital one. We had from Monday until Wednesday to complete it but we went a bit into Thursday.

Once I saw the end product, let me tell you, I was in shock. It looks so clean and organised and the colour palette is Fantastic looking! Also to mention our Team Project Photo was a fantastic idea.

Here's also the members of Team Island Skittles;
- Matthew
- Mary-Ruth
- Cherry Anne
- Leanah
- Paikea
- David (Me)

Hope you enjoyed the preview and presentation of our project poster!!!

The Power of Gratitude

Walt: The Power of Gratitude

Here's the blog post, The Power of Gratitude...

Gratitude - the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

If you want to know how that works, we can practice some gratitude exercises so that we’re able to access neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity reveals that we can physically reallocate connections between our brain cells.

Here are some benefits of gratitude on well-being;

M/E (Mental/Emotional) - Gratitude and humility go hand in hand; they are mutually reinforcing. Expressing gratitude induces humility in us, and humility increases our capacity for experiencing and conveying gratitude.

SO (Social) - Gratitude is well-known to promote prosocial behaviour. The more grateful you are, the more likely you are to help others. As your cup overflows, you feel a natural urge to help others.

PH (Physical) - Gratitude trains our mind to see the positive, rather than the negative. When looking into the future, this results in a more positive outlook. The more grateful we are, the more optimistically we look to the future.

SP (Spiritual) - Just like humility and gratitude go hand in hand, so do spirituality and gratitude. The more spiritual you are, the more likely you are to be grateful, and vice-versa.

Gratitude is also strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.

Here are the ideas how can we grow/develop Gratitude;

Emote: Feel the gratitude within you, don't just think about it.

Extend: Extend your gratitude to the people around you, instead of focusing on yourself.

Exercise: Practice/do your daily gratitude exercises.

Gratitude is perhaps the best researched emotion out there, and it might just be the most powerful one as well. Once you also see how beneficial being grateful is, then you can move on to practicing different ways to develop gratitude.

If you want to learn a lot about gratitude, here are some links for you…

Here’s also my Gratitude jar. It’s called my Gratitude Christmas Wish List Jar, and this is how I grow/develop my Gratitude;

Exercise:

Few more days before Christmas. I will get my paper, pen & jar and begin my gratitude time. To ensure I remember, I will schedule at 7 am on my calendar from Term 2 to December so I can get settled & ready for the next day and complete the gratitude wishes everyday.

Emote:

I’ll make sure I’m in a peaceful space for what I’m wishing for. When I wish for something I will focus on feeling what I am thinking of what I needed, not just doing it for what I wanted.

Extend:

For what I’ve shared that I’m grateful for everything, as the number of days has passed everyday, I will try to extend more of my gratitude and do something to show how grateful I am for any person/people that cared for me.

Hope you learned and enjoyed and you too can grow/develop your own Gratitude!!!

Akomanga Kaihanga - Water Safety

Walt: Akomanga Kaihanga - Water Safety

Here's the blog post my Akomanga Kaihanga - Water Safety project...

Hi, our group name is called Island Skittles, our project is about Water Safety which means
we want to help the Year 9 students to learn how to swim safely and prevent drowning.

We are planning to build a swimming pool here in Tamaki College and when we made a
survey there is a 28.6% of students who don't know if they want to have a pool here in
Tamaki College, but 71.4% of students want to have a pool here in Tamaki College.

We came up with great ideas of any swimming lessons for the Year 9 students so in the future,
they already know how to swim and they can teach their children or the other
students to know how to swim. Our group made a survey and it’s all about Water Safety so
we can know if they know how to swim or not at any level. When we made a survey, 28.6%
of students don't know if they want to have a pool in Tamaki College, but 71.4% of students
want to have a pool in Tamaki College.

We also planned to build a swimming pool here in T.C. and if the Year 9 students want to
learn to swim. The Year 9 students in Tamaki College want to have our own swimming pool at
Tamaki College.

Hope you enjoyed this blog and please give me feedback in you require.

Te Whare Tapa Wha - Hauora

Walt: Te Whare Tapa Wha - Hauora

Here are the four dimensions of my Hauora and how they interconnect with my well-being...

Taha Hinengaro (Mental/Emotional)

  • Feelings
  • Thoughts

Taha Tinana (Physical)

  • Body growth
  • Body care
  • Body development
  • Balance - (nutrition, exercise, sleep)
  • The ability to move

Taha Whanau (Social)

  • Relationships
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Community
  • Social support
  • Sense of belonging
  • Compassion & care

Taha Wairua (Spiritual)

  • Sense of achievement
  • Purpose in life
  • Personal identity
  • Values
  • Beliefs
  • Self-esteem
  • Self-awareness
  • Cultural practises
  • Religion
Each of these dimensions represent how they interconnect & improve with my well-being. Click here….

1. Mental/Emotional (Taha Hinengaro) - It's about how you feel, as well as how you
communicate and think through processes, acknowledging and expressing thoughts and
feelings and responding constructively.

2. Physical (Taha Tinana) - It is about how your body grows, feels and moves and how you
care for the physical body, its growth, development, and ability to move, and ways of
caring for it.

3. Social (Taha Whanau) - It is about who makes you feel you belong, who you care about
and who you share your life with family relationships, friendships, and other
interpersonal relationships; feelings of belonging, compassion, and caring; and social
support.

4. Spiritual (Taha Wairua) - It explores your relationship with the environment, people and
heritage in the past, present and future. Your spiritual essence is your life force – your
mauri and improves the values and beliefs that determine the way people live, the search
for meaning and purpose in life, and personal identity and self-awareness.

So if you know “what are the four dimensions and their examples are” and “what they mean to your well-being”, try and keep remembering each of them and learn how to interconnect with “your” well-being and stay on the right path that leads you to a positive and wonderful life.

But, this is just one theory, ever since I started here in T.C. (Tamaki College), a made some new friends here that also improves my well-being like;

Being more happy, enthusiastic and energetic improves my Mental/Emotional well-being (Taha Hinengaro).

Knowing about our body movements and being physical improve my Physical well-being (Taha Tinana).

Talking about our family and where we live, and knowing to support each other improves my
Social well-being (Taha Whanau).

Asking if we can go to church services every Sunday and worshipping Jesus improves my
Spiritual well-being (Taha Wairua).

Hope you learned and enjoyed and you too can remember how your well-being improves you!!!
