Study Notes

Walt: Study Notes

Here are the list of study notes from Maths;

1. Numbers;

  • Multiples -
    The product result of one number multiplied by another number. The meaning of a multiple is the product result of one number multiplied by another number.
    7: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35....
    10: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50....
  • Factor -
    A divisor of an integer n, also called a factor of n, is an integer m that may be multiplied by some integer to produce n.
    16: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16
    30: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, 30
  • Prime number -
    A number that has exactly 2 factors – itself and one. It can only be divided into these two numbers.
    between 1 and 20; 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19
  • Composite numbers -
    T
    he numbers can be defined as the whole numbers that have more than two factors.
    before 20; 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20
  • HCF (Highest common factor) -
    The highest number that can be divided exactly into each of two or more numbers.
    12: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12
    18: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18
    HCF = 6
  • LCM (Lowest common multiple) -
    The lowest quantity that is a multiple of two or more given quantities.
    4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28....
    6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42....
    LCM = 12

2. Order of Operations;
We use BEDMAS to solve problems with multiple operations.
  • B - Brackets
  • E - Exponents
  • D - Division
  • M - Multiplication
  • A - Addition
  • S - Subtraction

3. Rounding;
  • Decimal Place Rounding -
    Round 6.35719 to 2dp
Counting the number of decimal places are required and draw a line. 6.35719

If the NEXT number is a 5 or higher, round the LAST digit up.
6.35719 = The next number is a 5 or higher so round the last number up.

If the NEXT number is a 0-4 leave the last digit alone.

Round 6.35719 to 2dp = 6.40

4. Standard Form;
  • Standard form allows us to write numbers without using any digits.
  • A number in Standard form is written into two parts:
    Number from 1 to 9 X power of 10

  • 35946 (first number must be from 1-9)
    followed by power of 10
    ANSWER: 3.5946 x
     104
(104 means the first digit has been moved 4 places)

The first number must be from 1-9 followed by power of 10
  • 5432 = 5.432 x 103 = 54.32 x 102
  • 14500 = 1.45 x 104 = 14.5 x 103
  • 5000000 = 5 x 106 = 5000 x 103
  • 17 = 1.7 x 10 = 17 x 1
  • 6 = 6 x 100 = 6 x 1
Negative exponents are used for any number less than 1 (numbers that start with 0)
  • 0.08 = 8 x 10-2 = 0.8 x 10-1
  • 0.092 = 9.2 x 10-2
  • 0.00000864 = 8.64 x 10-6 = 864 x 10-8

All About Waitangi

Walt: The Treaty of Waitangi History

Image result for treaty of waitangi

The Treaty of Waitangi is a treaty first signed on 6 February 1840 by representatives of the British Crown and Māori chiefs (rangatira) from the North Island of New Zealand. It has become a document of central importance to the history, to the political constitution of the state, and to the national mythos of New Zealand, and has played a major role in framing the political relations between New Zealand's government and the Māori population, especially from the late-20th century.

The treaty was written at a time when the New Zealand Company, acting on behalf of large numbers of settlers and would-be settlers, were establishing a colony in New Zealand, and when some Māori leaders had petitioned the British for protection against French incursions. It was drafted with the intention of establishing a British Governor of New Zealand, recognising Māori ownership of their lands, forests and other possessions, and giving Māori the rights of British subjects.

This was only the first thing to know how the Waitangi Treaty was signed....

Symmetry Photo Collage

Walt: Symmetry Photo Collage

#1: Kick Start

#2: (Hearts)-Step It Up

Hey guys!!!
This next activity was a fun challenge and it's very creative, I like this one and feel quite similar to our other activity we had to do outside and create any art design using nature!

I actually love symmetry in Maths back at school, and as soon as I saw these kind of images, then I doubt I really enjoyed it. I had heaps of fun completing this, and any activity is not fun if it's very challenging!

Summer Collage!

Walt: Summer Collage!

#1: Kick Start

#2: Step It Up

Hey guys!!!
This new activity was a fun challenge and got me thinking what my favourite things are in summer and I found it. I even found some pictures of the places in New Zealand like Queenstown and Dunedin.

My favourite part about this was looking and describing what these picture mean, and that's means to revisit them where the movies "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" took place behind the scenes.

Ngā Mihi o Te Tau Hou

Walt: Ngā Mihi o Te Tau Hou

#1: Kick Start

Hey guys!!!
For this year's activity I've managed to create a poster to share at least five ways of saying Happy New Year in different languages.
  • English
  • German
  • Italian
  • Filipino
  • Māori
I chose the image of Year of the Ox as I am part of Asia and it represents in Chinese culture every year. I also re-design the background to show how the year of 2020 is gonna be.

Hope you enjoyed my blog-post view and don't forget to leave a comment! Thank you!!!
